Hydrogen peroxide ebook review: 101 Home Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

I was interested to know that there is an ebook about household uses of hydrogen peroxide. (Yes, I bought it.) It is called:

Actually, if you like this website, I think you’d probably like the ebook, too. There is a lot of overlap in both content and approach. But I’ll get to that.

(In case you don’t know what an “ebook” is, it is simply a book that is sent to you in electronic form, as a file, rather than printed on paper.)

First, let me say I was not sure what to expect. The ebook is $25. Not a fortune, but you never know what you’re buying, right? I bought the ebook and downloaded it (worked fine). It is a .PDF file. (You have to have Acrobat Reader to read it.)

I’m happy to say that I really like this book, and think it is a good quality product. It is well formatted, with lots of nice pictures. I know, I know, no one buys things just for pictures or formatting, but it does help to make it easy reading and pleasant. It’s very professional looking, so my first impression was good.

More important, the information is good. While it is true that I already knew about many of the uses for peroxide that the book covers, there were also a few nice surprises for me, and new twists on things I already knew about. A couple of examples of things I didn’t know about: using peroxide to clean skunk odor off of dogs (the author has done this!), and using peroxide to clean coffee makers.

The ebook is very well organized, with the “101 uses” listed in the table of contents. Each item is a link so you can skip forward to that particular item. And, yes, there are 101 entries.

The author (Rebecca Mundt) has a very direct approach in explaining how to do things. I hope you’ll think it is “a good thing” when I say that I think her approach to the topic is similar to mine. There is also quite a bit of overlap in content between the ebook and this website. (The ebook covers a lot more topics than this website does, at least as of August 2007, when I’m writing this review. Of course, I also cover some things that the ebook doesn’t.)

Overall, I think there is a lot of good information in the ebook, presented in a practical useful manner. The author clearly has lots of experience with using peroxide. I have used this ebook as one of many sources of information. In particular, I like to check this book and other sources when I’m suggesting how much peroxide to use for any given purpose (one of the more difficult and necessary details!)

What didn’t I like? I think the “sales page” for the book gets a bit to sounding um -- salesy. I’m not sure that is really a criticism, since it is kind of “expected”, and what it says is not totally unrealistic. It just has a bit of the “you must buy this right now or you will die” sort of feel to it by the end. (I think it is called “urgency”.) Here’s the “sales page” about that I’m talking about.

Overall summary: Recommended. Very well written, realistic, and practical book. While you could find most of the information on your own, you might not think to look for some of these uses of peroxide. In addition, it's nice to have the information already collected together, in this format.
